Oh my goodness you guys! I think this thanksgiving week is perfect for me to make my first post. I’m so excited to share with you some ways to enjoy the little things to be grateful for. I know some people don’t celebrate thanksgiving. If you don’t celebrate thanksgiving, but you want to give thanks, this post is for you too!
I’ve always loved keeping a journal… I still have some of my old diaries that I wrote in as a kid. So brush off the dust from your old diary, or pull out that blank notebook you have lying around… To try this list of 10 prompts that help to focus your gratitude during the holiday season
number one: an object that makes you happy
This is an opportunity to notice the good things that you have. It’s hard to clearly see our blessings when we’re so focused on what other people have, or what we are unable to afford! So look around you and look for some objects or things to be grateful for
number two: listen to your all-time favorite song
There are so many songs to love! They all bring different feelings when you listen to them. You could listen to a podcast that inspires you, a playlist that you’ll never get tired of, or maybe a sentimental song that holds good memories. So, whatever brings you good feelings is a favorite song!!
number three: something in nature that you enjoy looking at
This prompt is meant to inspire you to view the world around you with fresh eyes. Look for those things that you normally walk right past or ignore. Notice the details of something seemingly common, boring, or uninteresting, and we can all view with new eyes how stunning it can be!
number four: find someone in their place of work, and thank them for what they do!
We can be focused on our own lives that we forget about other people who are also working hard and feel stressed or anxious. So take some time today and thank a grocer, a nurse, a teacher, a vet, or a construction worker for what they do! Try a smile and a “thank you”, and their day could turn completely around
number five: watch a movie from your childhood
There are so many classic movies!! Whether from the 1900’s, the early 2000’s, or a couple years ago, rewatch your favorite from that ol’ list of classics. As you watch your choice of movie, take a moment and relive some other childhood memories that this movie brings back
number six: write about freedom
This prompt seems simple but try some soul-searching to answer the question! You could think about what freedom means to you, whether you feel free, and how to gain freedom
number seven: write about someone important to you
You may choose to write about a family member like a parent, sibling, or grandparent. You could also write about a close friend, or maybe someone who is an example of kindness, compassion, or charity. You could also write about an animal who supports you! Big or small, everyone is valuable, so take this opportunity to think about why they are important to you
number 8: do something that makes you smile
Try something that you love doing because of the joy you feel there. You could try going for a walk, or visiting your favorite vacation spot, as long as it brings a smile to your face.
number 9: read a book that makes you happy
There are so many books to enjoy! Try reading a book that brings you comforting feelings, a book with a main character who reminds you of yourself, a book written by someone who shares your name, a book a friend reccomended to you.
number 10: participate in a tradition, new or old!
Think about traditions, they all had to start somewhere. You could do a tradition that’s been handed down for generations, and you could also start your own! Whatever you choose, I hope it’ll bring happy memories to you for years to come.
So guyss! I hope you filled some pages in your old diary! If you don’t write about your experiences or thoughts, that’s okay too! Store them as memories and I hope they bring you peace, acceptance, and thankfulness through the holiday season.
love y’all, Elle
